Higher suPAR levels were closely associated with more severe disease, more frequent organ failure and a significantly increased mortality rate within 90 days. A threshold value of approximately 14 ng\/ml proved to be an independent and particularly meaningful predictor \u2013 even when compared to established scores such as the MELD score.
