At the joint meeting, the difficult framework conditions of the Residence Act when recruiting foreign skilled workers, especially for regulated professions such as MTLA, as well as the often very difficult cooperation with the authorities were discussed in particular. Even if the laws are passed at federal level, the implementation of the equivalence assessment is a matter for the federal states. This is associated with different requirements and recognition procedures of the state authorities. Labor Berlin has therefore campaigned for a harmonized, central MTLA recognition procedure with uniform standards and an exchange between the authorities.
The urgent need to amend the Residence Act and the Skilled Immigration Act was also pointed out. Politicians are already planning to adopt a key issues paper on the (faster) immigration of skilled workers this year and to introduce a new bill next year. A talent pool at EU level is also to be established in future as a contact and exchange platform between foreign specialists and domestic employers.
Labor Berlin plans to continue the talks with politicians and has offered to support the political representatives accordingly.
