The founding of the company – more than just a merger

When two strong partners join forces, skills and perspectives can add up. Or they may even multiply. This goal is embodied by Labor Berlin, where the centuries-old tradition of the Charité meets the unique presence of the Vivantes hospital group.

Charité and Vivantes have merged their laboratories into a separate company. In around two years, an idea developed into a concrete partnership. It is more than just a merger. The competencies have been and are being brought together here step by step in order to pursue innovative paths in laboratory diagnostics and provide the highest quality services for patients. In the heart of Berlin and well connected in German and international science networks. Thanks to comprehensive expertise and scientific excellence.

Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Vivantes Netzwerk für Gesundheit GmbH are the parent companies, each holding 50 percent. Charité and Vivantes are both companies of the State of Berlin: Labor Berlin is therefore also part of the public sector. However, as an independent company, Labor Berlin can operate on a broader scale and better exploit its potential – with efficient processes and cost-effective laboratory services. The company can also actively compete in a market environment that is constantly growing.

The know-how of Charité and Vivantes enables Labor Berlin to generate external revenues and to establish itself as a leading laboratory institution in Europe in the long term. University research and teaching is actively supported by the company.

The joint laboratory company unites 10 different specialist areas under a single management. All departments moved into a new laboratory building at the Charité Virchow-Klinikum site in 2013.
