Labor Berlin, Europe’s largest hospital laboratory, celebrates its anniversary and looks back on 10 successful years of cutting-edge diagnostic medicine.

We are a link between science, healthcare and industry. In addition to the care provided by Charité and Vivantes, the unique merger and further development of the laboratories under the umbrella of Labor Berlin has made the possibilities of cutting-edge university medicine and the wide range of diagnostic services offered by the largest municipal hospital group available to many other clinics and referring physicians, and especially to their patients.

“When two strong partners join forces, skills and perspectives can add up. They can even multiply.”

As the first joint subsidiary of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Vivantes – Netzwerk für Gesundheit, this is exactly what we have achieved. Labor Berlin is a success story in public hands.

Out of passion

Teamwork

Labor Berlin started in 2011 with around 400 employees – now a team of more than 650 employees from the fields of laboratory, science, medicine, research and administration work hand in hand.
Out of passion. For patients.

Supply

Labor Berlin supplies around 80% of all hospital beds in Berlin, a total of over 30 clinics and more than 100 private practices.

For patients

Over 60 million laboratory analyses are carried out each year at the 13 laboratory locations in Berlin. Since then, several million patients have received their results from Labor Berlin. This was often the basis for diagnosis and therapy.

Innovative strength

Since its foundation in 2011, Labor Berlin’s innovative strength has been a central pillar of its success.

With the aim of being a pioneer in diagnostics and constantly striving for improvements for senders, patients and employees, the company is actively shaping trends. The most recent example of this innovative capability is the successful test for the use of drones for sample transportation. For its innovative strength, Labor Berlin 2021 was voted one of the 100 most innovative companies in the German SME sector for the fourth time in a row, coming in third place compared to hundreds of other companies.

The new fully automated solution in the central laboratory was put into operation just in time for the anniversary.
